The REALFRAME charter
Reality has a signature.
1. Our shared commitment
IMAGE RÉELLE, known as REALFRAME in English, promotes real-world capture and the commitment of the people who create it. Creators put their name behind the declared origin of their images. The label makes that commitment identifiable and publicly accessible.
2. Images captured in the real world
Labelled images must come from a cinema camera, still camera or phone recording a real scene. AI-generated imagery does not become eligible by being displayed on a screen, printed or filmed again with a camera.
3. Permitted processing
Editing, cropping, colour grading, exposure correction, stabilisation and technical corrections are permitted when they preserve the content of the captured scene. AI-assisted tools used for these operations must be disclosed and must respect the same limits as conventional tools. Clearly identifiable titles, subtitles and graphic elements are permitted. They must not be presented as elements actually filmed.
4. Excluded transformations
The label excludes AI-generated images or sequences and the AI addition or replacement of people, faces, objects, settings or actions. Creating movements or scenes absent from the original capture is also excluded. A project mixing eligible and generated images cannot carry the label for all its images. Any limited use of the label must explicitly identify the sequences covered.
5. A declaration for every project
Creators separately declare each film, photographic series or project carrying the label. They provide their identity, role, project references, publication link and processing used. They must have the information and authorisation needed to make the declaration. Archive and third-party images must be disclosed. Creators must be able to document their origin; otherwise those images cannot be covered by the declaration.
6. Retention of originals
Creators retain original files and available provenance material for as long as they use the label on the project. Original footage remains their responsibility. Uploading all originals to REALFRAME is not required at registration.
7. Checks and reviews
Creators agree to provide originals or supporting material upon a reasoned request to examine their declaration. Automated checks cover only what they can actually assess. They do not alone prove the absence of AI-generated imagery. The project page distinguishes the creator declaration from any completed reviews and states their nature and scope. Review materials are not published without creator permission, except where legally required.
8. Use of the label
The label must be linked to the declared project and its verification reference. It cannot be transferred to another creator or used on an undeclared project. Changes affecting image origin or eligibility must be reported before continuing to use the label on the new version. Inclusion in the promotional gallery is optional and requires creator permission.
9. Errors and breaches
Creators report and correct errors discovered in their declaration. Insufficient evidence, refusal to provide requested material or substantiated concerns may lead to suspension during review. Creators are informed of the reason and may provide an explanation. A false declaration or established breach may result in withdrawal of the project label and, depending on severity, exclusion of the creator. The public project status is updated.
10. Scope of the label
The label records a creator commitment under this charter. Payment of administration and licence fees is not technical validation of the images. Real footage may be staged, edited or taken out of context: the label does not guarantee the truth of the story, statements or events shown. This charter covers images. It does not certify the origin of voices, music or other audio elements.
